Located just a few hours drive from the town of Arusha, Tarangire is a popular stop for safaris travelling through the northern circuit on their way to Ngorongoro and the Serengeti. The park extends into two game controlled areas and the wildlife are allowed to move freely throughout. After the Serengeti, Tarangire has the greatest concentration of wildlife in Tanzania and in the dry season the Tarangire River is a magnet for thirsty wildlife. Large herds of elephants and migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest and eland gather and not surprisingly the predators follow. This is also the one place in Tanzania where dry-country antelope such as oryx and gerenuk are regularly spotted. Today we depart after lunch, we drive across the Masai Steppe and onto the Great Rift Valley, where your lodge is located high on the rim of the valley overlooking the national park. Lake Manyara is a picturesque spot with plenty of birdlife surrounding the lodge and panoramic views to the valley below. Dinner and overnight at Lake Manyara Serena.
After breakfast enjoy a game drive in Lake Manyara National Park, returning to the lodge for lunch. Leaving Lake Manyara behind your journey continues the stunning countryside of the highlands and into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. From here lie the vast plains of the Serengeti, where you will start spotting game well before you get into the park. At just 15,000 square kilometres in size, the Serengeti contains over three million animals. Most take part in seasonal migrations, unparalleled in nature. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Serena Lodge.
Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives in the Serengeti. The Serengeti’s ecosystem supports an incredible diversity of large mammals, including elephant, hippo, rhino, giraffe, buffalo, warthog, 19 species of antelope, three species of primate and several species of lesser known carnivores including serval, jackal, bat-eared fox, honey badger, genet and mongoose, plus 200 species of bird.
Today you will explore the plains of the Serengeti searching for quality encounters with all the three species of big cats including lion, cheetah and leopard. The early morning, and late afternoon, is the best time to spot the big cats hunting and these times of day provide the chance to glimpse nocturnal predators returning from, or heading out on, their nightly hunting forays. Expect wonderful sightings of giraffe, impala, topi, reedbuck, buffalo, hippo, vervet monkey and waterbuck. Dinner and overnight Serengeti Serena Lodge
After breakfast you depart for the Ngorongoro with a picnic lunch, viewing game across the vast Serengeti plains en route. After stopping for a picnic lunch you continue on to your lodge, located on the rim of the crater. Your balcony offers views across to the crater and beyond from your room.
